Little Hampden Forge is situated in the heart of the Chiltern Hills, in the small community of Little Hampden, a village which is recorded in the Domesday Book. The Smithy is situated on what was once the main road from London and the forge is one of the oldest working forges in the country. Re-built following a fire, it was previously thatched.
Little Hampden Forge was established in 2004 by Adrian Payne, the latest in a long line of blacksmiths spanning hundreds of years occupying The Smithy. Having studied blacksmithing at Hereford College, Adrian gained a Certificate of Merit from The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths and has now gained over 30 years blacksmithing experience.
Adrian has a passion for blacksmithing and loves the constant education in the forms that can be produced by this ancient craft.
We are dedicated to preserving the ancient traditions of the craft but with an eye to creating contemporary as well as traditional pieces. From chandeliers and furniture to bespoke gates, sculpture and smaller pieces, we delight in creating unique items for the home and garden.
Blacksmithing Experience Days
We are currently unable to offer blacksmithing experience days, however this is something that we are looking into and hope to offer shortly. As soon as this can be safely carried out we will make an announcement on this site, so please check back regularly if this is of interest.
